Render quantity Calculator guide
Use the method below to check your estimate before turning it into an order.
Use mass per applied volume
Multiply area, applied thickness and material mass per applied cubic metre. Apply allowance and divide by bag mass, rounding up.
Mass = area × applied thickness × density × (1 + waste ÷ 100). Bags = mass ÷ bag size, rounded up.
Worked examples in metric and imperial units
These examples describe the same project using the calculator’s starting values. Converted inputs are rounded here for readability; calculations use full precision. These reference examples stay fixed when you edit the calculator above.
Metric worked example
- Total surface area
- 24 m²
- Applied thickness
- 10 mm
- Material density
- 1,600 kg/m³
- Bag size
- 20 kg
- Waste allowance
- 10 %
Bags to buy: 22
The purchase count is rounded up to a whole unit.

Choose the system matching your measurements. Product sizes, pack yields and installation specifications vary by supplier and country; replace example inputs with your actual project values.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use loose powder density?
For applied coatings, use the manufacturer’s mass per installed volume. A published rate of 1.7 kg/m² per mm corresponds to 1,700 kg/m³.
What should I check before using this estimate?
Use the density for the selected product at the stated thickness. For product-specific dry coverage, use the supplier rate.
Should I use the example allowance?
Choose an allowance for your measured project, layout and product. The starting percentage is an editable example. Do not apply it again if the input already includes the same allowance.
